We are excited to introduce Ann to our North Texas network. One of the strengths of New Leaders Texas is bringing together Texans from across the state to support worthy candidates in regional races. Electing Ann Johnson to the Texas House will benefit all Texans, and we look forward to our North Texas network stepping up to make this happen.Ann Johnson is an attorney and educator, who previously served as a Harris County Assistant District Attorney. Ann recently made statewide headlines for winning a landmark case before the Texas Supreme Court, which led to the enforcement of state laws to fight human trafficking and protect child victims of prostitution. Ann’s career has been defined by advocating on behalf of those who cannot stand up for themselves, and she knows that justice can only be achieved through hard work and perseverance. Texans from across the state will find an advocate in Ann and a much needed change from her Republican opponent,  who recently voted to cut billions of dollars from women’s health care and public education. Help Support New Leaders Texas

It’s been an exciting spring — we hired our first executive director, we endorsed our first candidates, and have just helped elect our first New Leader to the Texas House of Representatives. We couldn’t have helped Mary González become HD-75 Representative-Elect without your enthusiasm, your volunteer hours and your generous donations. Last week we co-hosted the Texas Democratic Party’s State Convention Keynote After Party, featuring special guests Mayor Julián Castro and Rep. Joaquin Castro, attended by hundreds of enthusiastic Texans.

This summer, we will work to elect another New Leader to the State House, Houston’s Ann Johnson, candidate for HD-134. Now we begin raising the seed money for Ann’s winnable swing district.

Congratulations to Representative-Elect Mary González! Mary won her Democratic Primary without a runoff and has no general election opponent in HD-75. Thanks to New Leaders across the state who helped triple our May 10 fundraising reception goal and those that made calls to El Paso voters. Mary is grateful and proud to be the first New Leader elected to the Texas House. We look now to our other endorsed candidate, Ann Johnson, for Houston’s HD-134 and her general election in November. Please continue to support New Leaders Texas. Working together, we will change the face of Texas leadership.
